Hooker’s longtime manager and agent, Mike Kappus, told Pollstar that Hooker was undergoing a routine checkup when doctors discovered a vascular condition that may require surgery.

European dates through early June, including stops in Berlin and Paris, were immediately canceled. More than 12,500 tickets for the Berlin gig had already been sold.

“He was feeling fine but had to have a clean bill of health for insurance purposes before going to Berlin,” Kappus said.

Hooker is undergoing further testing and consulting with doctors before deciding whether to cancel additional dates.

The 82-year-old icon hopes to resume his tour schedule June 24 at the Chastain Park Amphitheatre near Atlanta.
