Dickey Betts Off Allman Brothers Tour
The Allman Brothers Band has announced that founding guitarist Dickey Betts will not be on the band’s summer tour, citing “creative differences,” a spokesperson for the group told Pollstar.
The “Campaign 2000” tour itinerary won’t change and Atlanta-based guitarist Jimmy Herring will stand in for Betts during the tour, according to a statement from the band.
Herring has worked with Bruce Hornsby, Aquarium Rescue Unit and the Grateful Dead’s Phil Lesh.
The Allman Brothers tour begins June 16 in Virginia Beach.
The spokesperson said the band, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, “hopes their good friend and brother will be back on the road with them this fall.”
