Kim Mathers tried to kill herself Friday night, said Dennis Dennehy, director of media and artist relations for Eminem’s label, Interscope Records.

Sterling Heights police said they went to the house of the 27-year-old Eminem, whose legal name is Marshall B. Mathers III, about a medical emergency just before midnight and was told that a 25-year-old resident had attempted suicide.

The police department said in a news release that emergency personnel treated the woman, whom it did not identify, and said she was conscious. She was taken to a hospital for evaluation and released, the department said. It did not say how she tried to kill herself.

Dennehy declined to elaborate on the circumstances.

“Eminem is obviously concerned about his wife’s well-being,” he said. “As far as anything else, it’s a private matter, which they’ll be addressing privately.” The couple have a young daughter.

Eminem was not home during the suicide attempt, police said. He performed a concert Friday night in Auburn Hills.

The Grammy-award-winning rapper is scheduled for a court hearing Tuesday on assault andweapons charges, stemming from a June 4 conflict outside a Warren nightclub.

He is accused of using an unloaded gun to smack a man who police say Ms. Mathers kissed. Ms. Mathers was charged with disturbing the peace in connection with the fight. She later said her husband “overreacted” to a friendly kiss between friends.

Eminem, also known as Slim Shady, also is awaiting trial on another weapons charge from Royal Oak.

Eminem has the No. 1 album in the country, “The Marshall Mathers LP.”

In February, Eminem won a Grammy in the best rap album category for his debut release, The Slim Shady LP, and another Grammy in the best rap solo performance category for the album’s hit single “My Name Is.”
