Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan’s other band will hit the road in America in support of its debut album Mer de Noms. The record was released May 23 and entered Billboard’s Top 200 chart at No. 4 – the highest entry ever for a rock band’s first effort.

The theatre tour kicks off at Avalon Ballroom in Boston on August 18, hitting major markets such as New York City, Atlanta, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Dallas before closing out at the Ariel Theatre in Houston on September 16. More dates may be added soon.

A Perfect Circle can claim a built-in fan base thanks to Keenan, but earned additional respect on the strength of its supporting performances with Nine Inch Nails on the Fragility 2.0 tour. A single, “Judith,” and video directed by David Fincher (“Fight Club,” “Seven”) have helped push album sales as well.

Keenan and Tool guitar tech Billy Howerdel formed the band in 1999, which includes Troy Van Leeuwen on guitar, Paz Lenchantin on bass and Josh Freese on drums.

The band is currently touring in Europe, and makes stops in Japan, Australia and Canada before launching the American leg of the outing.
