The preventative measure came two months after the Roskilde Festival tragedy where nine concert-goers died in a frenzied crush during the band’s performance.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we have witnessed a number ofinjuries as a result of blankets being used as trampolines at concerts,” said Pearl Jam manager Kelly Curtis.

The decision was made a couple of days before the show, causing the venue to scramble to get the word out.

Blankets and other items had been banned from certain concerts at the amphitheatre earlier this season, but management backed down and allowed most of the blacklisted goods – including blankets – back in with concert-goers complained.

When Pearl Jam requested the blanket ban, the venue agreed to reinstate it for the one show. Small beach towels and ponchos were suggested as alternatives.
