Adrian Belew, Robert Fripp, Trey Gunn and Pat Mastelotto launch a monthlong North American club tour October 19 at The Fillmore in San Francisco, supporting their latest album, ConstruKction Of Light.

The virtuosos will perform in Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago, Detroit, Washington, D.C.; New York City and Philadelphia before closing the tour at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston November 20 – 21.

Founded by Fripp and saxophonist Ian McDonald, King Crimson debuted what would be dubbed “progressive rock” with In the Court of the Crimson King in 1969. The band fused rock with jazz and classical music, while largely eschewing the conventional pop and psychedelic sensibilities of the day.

King Crimson has a knack for imploding just as it looked like the band had a shot of breaking out of cult status, usually thanks to personnel defections.

Among ex-band members who found fame after exiting the revolving door are McDonald (Foreigner), Greg Lake (Emerson, Lake and Palmer), Boz Burrell (Bad Company), Bill Bruford (Yes) and John Wetton (Asia).

Although Fripp has been the mainstay of King Crimson from its inception, he’s made time for solo and side projects, most notably with David Bowie and Brian Eno.

Belew joined forces with Fripp in 1981. He’s had a worthy career of his own outside Crimson, both as a solo act and playing for rock icons such as Bowie, Frank Zappa, Talking Heads, and Nine Inch Nails. Belew also released a solo album, Coming Attractions, this year.
