Gary Numan Tours Europe; North America May Be Next
Gary Numan – one of the godfathers of techno – has firmed up dates for a short European tour and a North American swing is expected to be confirmed soon. The influential synth master is out supporting his newest album, Dramatis Project.
While electronic music was popular in parts of Europe during the waning days of disco in 1980, Numan’s “Cars” was one of the biggest hits of the genre to make a mark worldwide.
While he hasn’t duplicated that success in the years that followed, his early work has recently crept back into public consciousness by way of covers by Marilyn Manson and Foo Fighters. Beck, Smashing Pumpkins and Hole have performed his songs live, and he’s been sampled on numerous hip-hop tracks.
Numan’s European trek begins November 20 at the Prime Club in Cologne, Germany. There are also some stops in Switzerland, Austria, Denmark and Belgium, where the outing winds down November 29 in Brussels.
