Swampstock Attracts Heavy Hitters
The country-singing son of former Mets pitcher Tug McGraw, Tim is the host of the annual charity Swampstock Festival. Proceeds from the concert and celebrity softball festival go to worthy causes, including the town’s Dixie League Baseball organization and the Steve Colvin Memorial Scholarship Fund.
This year’s event is set for October 22 – the second day of the World Series – and will feature McGraw; his wife, Faith Hill, and other country stars to be named later.
Major league ballplayers Chuck Finley of the Cleveland Indians and Rafael Palmiero from the Texas Rangers are expected to play in the softball game (the Rangers are still in the running for a wild card playoff berth).
Swampstock began in 1994 as a way for McGraw to give something back to Rayville, where he grew up playing baseball on the town’s fields. He says that despite the growth of the festival, the goal remains the same – to develop a quality Little League program for the children of Rayville and to provide a college scholarship fund for area students.
