The shows will be at the United Center on November 29, and the more intimate Metro club – capacity 1,110 – on December 2. The smaller venue reportedly was the site of the Pumpkins’ October 5, 1988, debut with the lineup of Billy Corgan, James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlain and D’arcy.

Ticket for both shows reportedly go on sale October 21 through Ticketmaster and at the United Center box office.

The announcement of the Chicago shows was made by the band from Angers, France, where they were performing October 17.

Even though the dates are being hyped as the band’s last, fans are still holding out for more live shows, according to posts on the Pumpkins’ Web site.

Billy Corgan announced the band’s pending demise during an interview on Los Angeles radio station KROQ in May. The Smashing Pumpkins recently released their final album, Machina II: The Friends and Enemies of Modern Music, by pressing 25 vinyl copies of the record and asking fans to post the entire album on the Internet.

The Pumpkins have been on a farewell swing through Europe and will wrap up the bulk of their touring in Cape Town, South Africa, on November 14.
