The former Pixie frontman and his band will play mostly eastern dates, launching April 9 at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston.

They’ll make stops in major cities including New York, Philadelphia, Toronto and Detroit, but will also throw in some secondary markets.

After a string of record company problems that kept him from finding a substantial audience, Black seems to have solved the problem with a new label. He’s out in support of his newly minted release, Dog in the Sand, and – save for studio time – has been touring relentlessly the last two years.

Black might be better remembered among Pixies fans as Black Francis. The band’s former singer/guitarist and principal songwriter inverted the name when he left the band to work with former Pere Ubu member Eric Drew Feldman and eventually form Frank Black & the Catholics.
