This year’s incarnation of the heavy metal package features Ozzy-fronted Black Sabbath, Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, and Crazy Town.

While the full tour itinerary won’t be announced for at least another day, it’s confirmed Ozzfest 2001 will launch June 8 at the New World Music Theatre near Chicago. The following day, the caravan descends on the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisc.

Tickets go on sale March 16 – 18 for the first batch of dates that include Cleveland, Seattle, Sacramento, Los Angeles and Chicago markets.

The festival will lumber across the country through the summer, including an August 11-12 stint at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, N.J.

The dozen bands appearing on two side stages haven’t been announced, but it’s confirmed that Disturbed is the second-stage headliner.

The whole shebang will have a European warmup before taking on North America – Ozzfest 2001 makes its overseas debut at the 50,000-seat National Bowl at Milton Keynes, England, on May 26.

The metal fest will feature a Village of the Damned, with the requisite merch, food and beverages. This year’s Ozzfest will also see a resurrection of the Pit Pass after a six-year absence.

The first several rows of seats will be removed and 500 Pit Pass holders will be able to mosh their brains out, secure in the knowledge that membership has its privileges.

The remainder of the Ozzfest dates and on-sale information are expected to be released March 13, including second- and third-stage support acts.
