Dates are just beginning to be filled, but the tour will begin in mid-July and is expected to grow to more than 40 dates by the time the itinerary is completed. Additional dates are expected to be announced shortly.

Of the 12 dates that are confirmed, the earliest comes July 13 at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Wash. The double-header also has firm dates for markets including New Orleans, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Detroit and Boston.

The Sacramento-based Deftones are riding high this year on the strength of their platinum album White Pony. The hard-touring band has already logged more than 150 concerts since the disc’s release last summer – a grueling pace that saw a few dates canceled when singer Chino Moreno bruised his vocal chords late in the fall while on the road with Incubus.

But Moreno is fully recovered, and the band is currently taking a well-deserved break after wrapping up a European trek in March.

Sharing the stage is Godsmack, another band of road warriors. The Boston-based outfit spent much of last year trekking with the Anger Management and Ozzfest caravans, and headlining their own tours.

Before the amphitheatre jaunt with Deftones, Godsmack warms up with an extensive European tour kicking off May 16 in Amsterdam.
