Rufus Gets A Brand New Bag
His calendar was cleared by the cancellation of the Wotapalava festival tour but it didn’t take Rufus Wainwright long to find a new gig. The wry-witted piano player is hitching a ride with Roxy Music on their upcoming tour.
Wainwright will perform on all North American dates July 17 – August 7.
Roxy Music will continue on with their world tour, stopping in eight countries before bringing the road trip to a close September 26 in Vienna, Austria.
The purveyors of sophisticated pop split up 18 years ago, but have reunited for this “final” tour. Their experimental art sound remains influential and the band’s loyal cult following never waned. The band’s last studio album, Avalon, was released in 1982.
Wainwright, son of folk luminaries Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, released his self-titled 1998 debut under the direction of Beach Boys collaborator Van Dyke Parks. His highly anticipated sophomore album, Poses, was released June 5.
