The R&B singer, whose latest hit is “U Got It Bad,” hurt his shoulder last week while rehearsing a dance number for the U.S. tour, his publicist said November 13. He underwent surgery on the 12th and has been hospitalized in Los Angeles.

The tour – his first in four years – was scheduled to kick off December 6 in Minneapolis; however, because of Usher’s injury, it will now reportedly begin in April. Makeup dates have not been released.

He was scheduled to perform at intimate theatres in the U.S. before heading to Europe for a tour in February. The second leg of the U.S. tour was to follow.

Since his debut in 1994, Usher has taken the quick route to the top – touring alongside Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige and P. Diddy (back when he was Puff Daddy); receiving numerous nominations and awards; featured in several movies and TV programs; and has scored major hits with singles including “You Make Me Wanna” and “Nice & Slow.”
