First, they join Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe for a New Year’s Eve gig at the Warfield in San Francisco. Then, the tour commences January 16 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., and the band will hang out on the Eastern seaboard for the 18-show venture.

The San Francisco Bay Area’s Triple Threat – featuring DJ’s Apollo, Shortkut, and Vinroc – are the special guests on all dates.

According to Galactic, they picked Triple Threat “because the group best symbolizes what Galactic has been about since its inception: using the soul vocabulary [to] explore new sounds and grooves, and making a non-stop party of it.”

The trio hail from revered DJ crews Invisibl Skratch Piklz and the World Famous Beat Junkies. Between the three artists, they boast of three world titles and various regional DJ circuit championships.

After the first leg of the Freezestyle tour, Galactic head home for an all-day Mardi Gras music fest on February 9. Making use of a 3,000-capacity tent set up at the New Orleans Contemporary Arts Center, they will play two full sets, with special performances by G. Love & Special Sauce. Other acts are expected to join in.

Two days later Galactic, head to New Orleans landmark Tipitina’s nightclub for a more intimate set. The band’s most recent album, We Love ‘Em Tonight, was recorded live at the venue.
