Christian Pop Groups Spring Into Action
Plus One burst into the Christian music scene in 2000 with their debut release, The Promise. As Christian music’s answer to mainstream boy bands, Plus One quickly climbed the charts. They had four consecutive singles go No.1 on the CCM charts and found a home on Radio Disney’s Top 10.
A touring mainstay, Plus One supported Jaci Velasquez during her 2000 blast and headlined their own monolithic outing in 2001 with Rachel Lampa, Staci Orrico and DJ Maj. Later that summer, Plus One joined Jessica Simpson on her Dreamchaser tour.
While Plus One is leading the tour group, their support artists are no shrinking violets. ZOEgirl have recently been nominated for a Dove award as new artist of the year and spent the greater part of last year on two coveted tour slots: as an opener for Carman – who never has openers – and on Avalon’s Oxygen tour. The gals released their sophomore album, Life, in November.
As a fledgling high school band, Phat Chance managed to procure opening spots for the likes of Rebecca St. James, Big Tent Revival, Newsboys and Audio Adrenaline – all before they even had a record contract. Their debut, Without You, was set loose last August and showcases the young band’s (most members are still in high school) writing and instrumental skills.
Natalie Grant has also been nominated for a Dove award – in the esteemed category of female vocalist of the year. A regular at youth conferences, political conventions (she was invited to perform at the 2000 Republican National Convention) and churches across the states, Grant is discovering new success in her solo career, which began in 1997.
Plus One release their second album, Obvious, two days before the start of the tour.
