Jam band
Strangefolk stack up the dates as they head out this spring on a U.S. theatre tour. Between February 20 and March 3, the guys will keep to the Eastern seaboard on a solo jaunt, with the exception of two New York shows (February 23-24) when they’ll be joined by
Gov’t Mule. They then hook up with
Big Wu March 11 through April 13.
Strangefolk also return to the annual Gathering Of The Vibes festival, marking the seventh time they’ve participated in the event. The summer solstice fest takes place over a four-day weekend, July 4-8, in Mariaville, N.Y., and features such artists as Phil Lesh & Friends, Les Claypool, Deep Banana Blackout, Gov’t Mule and John Mooney.
Strangefolk have had a self-described “difficult” past year. Founding member and lead vocalist Reid Genauer left the band in 2000 to pursue other interests, leaving Strangefolk to figure out a replacement and what determine direction the band would take. Nevertheless, they soldiered on to tour the country twice and somehow managed to sneak in some studio time. Their fifth album, Open Road, was released in 2001.
