Like last year’s highly successful Area: One, which brought together artists like Incubus, The Roots and Paul Oakenfold, Area: Two will unite the best in rock, pop and hip-hop beginning with David Bowie and Busta Rhymes, who, in addition to Moby, are the first confirmed acts.

“Area2 is coming together nicely,” Moby said in a post on his official Web site. “I hope that you’ll be happy. I’m certainly happy with the lineup as it’s developing. It’s very eclectic and very good. Well, at least I think so.”

Dates, venues and additional artists for the North American tour have yet to be announced. According to a post on Bowie’s official Web site, the tour looks to hit the road around “late summer/early autumn.”

Just as Lollapalooza defined the traveling festival and gave exposure to new music a decade ago, Moby’s Area: festivals are designed to do much the same by bringing together the best in new music – contemporary, cutting edge and electronic.

In addition to a main stage, last year’s package included an air-conditioned techno tent with what organizers call a “unique quad sound system” for DJ performances.

A portion of the proceeds from the caravan were donated to Greenpeace and Lifebeat charities.

Moby’s new album, titled 18, is set to hit the shelves around mid-May.
