Bucking the new wave/punk revival and the persistent presence of rap/metal groups, Low stands out with their minimalist tunings of delicate, almost peaceful songs; In fact, they were formed in 1993 partly as an experiment in playing quiet, minimalistic music. Comprising a simple guitar, bass and sparse drum set – just a snare and hi-hat – Low says the spaces between notes are as important as what they actually play, and perhaps even more so.

While the band remains largely devoid of mainstream radio play, Low have become favorites of both critics and underground alt-music fans. They’ve played alongside Nick Cave, Pedro The Lion, Dirty Three, Soul Coughing, and Luna and have developed a dedicated fanbase.

Outside of working on their own album, Low contributed to the opening and closing credit music for the movie “The Mothman Prophecies.” This wasn’t the only time their music has been used in visual media: last Christmas, clothing retailer The Gap featured the band’s version of “Little Drummer Boy” during its TV ad campaign.
