Loud And Proud
The 32nd annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Pride Celebration is taking over the Civic Center Area of San Francisco this weekend, June 29-30. Along with the feted Sunday morning parade – during which actor/activist Ian McKellen will serve as grand marshall – comes two days of speakers, art exhibitions, comedy and dance shows, and of course, music.
Making appearances throughout the weekend are English songbird Julia Fordham; the sexually charged and socially conscious Bitch & Animal; San Francisco’s gay punk rockers Pansy Division; androgynous Dead Or Alive; Marc Almond, formally of ‘80s hitmakers Soft Cell; percussion sensation Stomp; Marcella Detroit from Shakespeare’s Sister; and nine-time Grammy winner Janis Ian, among others.
“As well as making great music, these folks have been at the forefront of pushing the envelope for our community,” said SF Pride President Joshua Smith.
All musicians will be performing in 30 minute sets through out the day, starting at noon. Speakers will be sprinkled in between shows.
