Along with folk group The McGarrigles, which incidentally, comprises Wainwright’s mom and aunt, and his sister, Martha Wainwright, Rufus and family will hold a benefit concert at Emens Auditorium at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., August 31.

Tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster and range from $20 to $32. Proceeds from the event will go towards rehabilitating the high school.

The Fairmount High School auditorium has been vacant since 1986 and is in need of immediate stabilization. An example of the Romanesque Revival style of architecture, the school was placed on Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana’s “10 Most Endangered List” in 2001.

The screen legend performed in numerous plays while attending the high school. After moving to California and beginning his acting career, he often visited the school until his death in 1955 from injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Wainwright wrapped his first headlining tour of the States in late spring this year in support of his second album, Poses.
