The is a benefit to raise money for those in need of affordable housing. A series of walk-a-thon events will take place in and around New York City on September 29.

The fun begins after the walking. Each walk-a-thon will be capped off by a celebratory block party, with food games, raffles and free concerts. Additionally, all participants will be entered into a sweepstakes for the chance to have Washington Mutual pay three months of their mortgage or rent – up to $10,000.

The Riverside Park in Manhattan will host Wyclef Jean and the Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, while Heckscher State Park in Long Island features Patti LaBelle and the Long Island Philharmonic.

Jewel and Diana King take over Croton Point State Park in Westchester, and Joan Osborne and the Blind Boys Of Alabama lay down the grooves at Branch Brook Park in North Newark.

The Walk On Home is the fulfillment of a promise made by Washington Mutual when it acquired a local bank. The bank vowed to make a strong and immediate community impact in the New York City metro area. All of the funds raised by the event will to directly to local affordable housing organizations.
