Lightfoot was scheduled to perform September 7 at the Opera House in Orillia, Ontario, in support of his new album, A Painter Passing Through. Instead, he was rushed to the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The following day, he was air lifted to the McMaster University Medical Center in Hamilton, Ontario, to undergo surgery for the undisclosed stomach illness.

Following the procedure, the singer’s manager, Barry Harvey, told Reuters news service that Lightfoot was recovering in the intensive care unit.

“He’s in serious condition,” Harvey said. “They have him sedated and they’re monitoring his health.”

Harvey told the news wire that Lightfoot’s Eastern Canada dates for later this month have been canceled.
