“Touring the U.S. in the summer is always on top of our list of things we would like to do and we are hitting all the big cities,” Metallica lead James Hetfield said. “Being able to play this stuff live is going to be so amazing! My mindset is to go out there and show the world how strong Metallica is.”

Metallica may be strong, but they’ve conceded to share the stage with three others on this tour. In addition, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park will also be playing full-length sets, while Mudvayne is set to open.

Along with the specific dates and venues, an additional band is expected to be announced. Tickets to most shows will go on sale February 22. Confirmed cities include Minneapolis, St. Louis, Orlando, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Columbus, Montreal, Dallas, Houston, Seattle, Denver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Detroit, Toronto, Washington, D.C./Baltimore, and Chicago.

All three headliners have new albums coming out. Metallica’s eighth disc, St. Anger, is due out June 10, while Limp Bizkit’s Lessismore could see a May release. Linkin Park’s Meteora will hit shelves March 25.

This tour marks the second Summer Sanitarium series Metallica has spearheaded. The first outing was in 2000 and saw Korn, Kid Rock and System Of A Down supporting. That tour was also the last time Metallica toured the States.
