Willie Nelson’s Annual Picnic
Celebrating three decades of music and grub, Nelson’s annual picnic is back and bigger than ever, pumped up from one day to two and in a new location. The new Two River Canyon Amphitheatre in Spicewood, Texas – about 30 minutes from Austin – will host this year’s 30th anniversary event.
The lineup features Willie Nelson on both days, with The Dead, Pat Green and special guest Toby Keith kicking things off on the 4th. The following day will see Neil Young & Crazy Horse and Billy Bob Thornton in motion, with additional acts for both dates to be announced.
Tickets go on sale April 19. However, those with Internet hook-ups can sign on for a presale at startickets.com starting April 12. Prices range from $40 and $49 per show, to $80 for a two-day pass.
The picnic started way back in 1972 in Dripping Springs, Texas, as an opportunity for artists to come together and celebrate the day. From 1995-1999, the event was held in Luckenbach. In 2000, the event was moved to Austin.
Year 2000 also marked the last time the event took place. Last year’s event was forced to cancel last minute when nearly half the town of Luckenbach was swept away in a flood.
