They’re Bad Plus Some
Some of the atypical things you can expect to hear from The Bad Plus are their cover tunes, which include Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Blondie’s “Heart Of Glass,” and Aphex Twin’s “Flim.”
The band has a magic formula for selecting and arranging cover tunes. According to them, “We consult an oracle, then duke it out together. We think you should only be limited by imagination, not by style.”
And imaginative they are, blending dance, pop and rock into a jazzy harmony.
Although they’ve been playing together as a trio since around 1990, the guys – Ethan Iverson on piano, Reid Anderson on bass and David King handling drums – technically formed The Bad Plus in 2000.
They recently released their major label debut album, These Are The Vistas, which followed their eponymous indie debut.
The Bad Plus have been on the road since mid-February, playing in the U.K. and the States. They’ll stick to the U.S. for a couple more months before heading back to Europe at the end of June for some festival gigs.
A quick look at the band’s itinerary finds The Bad Plus in Europe, Japan, North America, Brazil, Ireland and the U.K. through year’s end. They’ve even got some shows on the books for next year already.
