Mariah Carey Puts On The Brakes
At press, North American dates are on hold. Still moving forward are Carey’s performances in South Korea, Japan, Russia, and Europe. Her appearance on the “Today Show” Summer Concert series as well as a gig in New Jersey at the start of June are also still on the books.
No reason has been given at this point for the cancellation, but rumors are rampant.
Carey is expected to reschedule the tour, albeit on a much smaller scale. Original plans were for an arena outing, but the revamped Charmbracelet 2003 World Tour is expected to be downsized to smaller theatres.
In an interview with Fox News, Carey said “My voice is very delicate. I wanted this [tour] to be about the music, not a Broadway-type show. I didn’t want to be moving around quickly from city to city. I wanted to stay planted in a city as long as I could.”
Perhaps the rescheduled dates will see her performing multiple shows in each city. At this point, that’s just a guess.
Some good news for fans, though, is the announcement of a new version of Carey’s Charmbracelet album. Slated for release July 29, the disc will reportedly contain four new tracks.
