sweet-sensation Björk is coming to America for a round of August shows. The dates stretch from the 8th in San Francisco to the 31st in Boston.

Last time she toured the U.S., in the fall of 2001, it was on a theatre tour with Vespertine album collaborators Matmos and a 50-piece orchestra. Matmos is on board again this time, in addition to Zeena Parkins, Leila Arab, and the Icelandic String Octet.

Björk is currently finishing up the European leg of her world tour, which has been under way since late May. She’ll do one Japan show, at Tokyo’s Fuji Rock Festival, before heading for the States.

Indie-folk troubadour Bonnie Prince Billy is set to open all North American shows, along with the Matthew Herbert Big Band on the first couple of dates and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on the last two.

Before doing the Björk shows, the busy busy Yeah Yeah Yeahs will spend the month of August on their own European festival tour. They’ll also be opening for The White Stripes on six dates in September.

For their part, the Stripes recently announced yet another extension to their ongoing tour, consisting mostly of late September West Coast shows along with a week of Japan gigs in October.
