Tours de Farce: Rush To Greatness
We’ve been hearing that question a lot these last few days. Did you hear what Rush said on ESPN? Did you hear that they’re investigating Rush in Florida? All week long it’s been Rush this and Rush that. All Rush, all of the time. Gosh, what a Rush.
But to tell you the truth, none of us here at Pollstar.com have had the time to keep up with current events. Entering new dates for Bette Midler or updating the Euro schedule for Sense Field keeps us pretty busy, and we hardly ever have a chance to browse the front page of our local newspaper or tune into the fair and balanced reporting of Fox News. In fact, we spend so much time dealing with the concert industry that we rarely ever have time to touch base with the real world. So when this Rush thing came up, we were totally clueless.
But that’s not to say that we’re completely oblivious to what’s going on. For example, we know about the current investigation by the Justice Department to identify who leaked the info about the woman who worked for the ACLU, and how Arnold pushed her head into a toilet in one of his movies. But we’re just too busy to keep up with it all. Heck, managing dates for Craig David, George Strait and James Solberg keeps us so busy, that we didn’t learn until last week that it took a decision by the Supremes to put George Bush in the White House. But what we still can’t figure out is why Mary Wilson got to pick the president in the first place.
So when the news about Rush first broke, we ignored it because we were too busy processing the tour schedule for George Jones. Then, when Rush quit ESPN, we ignored it because we were too busy updating the schedules for Waylandsphere and They Might Be Giants. However, when the news hit the wire about Rush being investigated in Florida, we had to pause in our tour date processing and pay attention, for we realized that this could turn out to be big. Really big.
However, there’s one thing in all of this Rush business that we just don’t understand. Something that doesn’t add up. Yes, there’s something about all those stories about Rush that doesn’t make sense.
What the hell were Geddy Lee and the band doing in Florida anyway? After all, they’re not even on tour. Gosh, current events can be soooo confusing.
