The script involves a world-renowned Indian sitar composer and his long-lost daughter, an American jazz singer. The two reunite after the daughter sweeps the Grammy music awards.

Veteran Bollywood actor/director Dev Anand says he’s “only flattering them by doing the story” and the script includes a good amount of creative liberty.

Jones recently made peace with her father, who left her mother, Sue Jones, to marry his present wife. Shankar would visit Norah once a year until she was 10 and kept her birth a secret from his fans.

Her mother then “wanted not to be found,” according to The Times of India, and Jones did not see her father again for a decade.

Unlike most Bollywood films, the Indian movie “Song of Life,” which will be filmed in New York City, will not have any big dance numbers and only four songs. Also, it will be done in English and not Hindi. Anand initially tried to persuade Nicole Kidman and Salma Hayek to play the part of Jones.

Regarding the film, the jazz singer was the most generous of all the family, calling it “very exploitative.”

Anoushka Shankar, Ravi’s other daughter from his second marriage, said “What a jerk!” and Shankar’s wife, Sukanya, said, “Nobody knows the inside story about our family except for us, really. It’s nobody’s business and intrudes on our privacy.”

“Look, I have to be ambitious at this stage in my career,” 79-year-old Anand said. “I want to do something I’ve not done earlier. Otherwise, what’s the use of my doing it?”
