The third annual tour runs through mid-March. A handful of shows in Japan at the start of February briefly interrupt the otherwise U.S. tour. It’ll be the New Orleans-based band’s first headlining outing in Japan.

The modus operandi of the Freezestyle tour is to “incorporate a diverse set of influences into [Galactic’s] dance-inducing, deep-funk foundation.” In reality, this means concert-goers are treated to both audio and visual art.

In previous Freezestyle excursions, the band has teamed up with an array of musicians, including DJ crew Triple Threat, jazz trio Medeski, Martin and Wood, and hip-hoppers The Roots. In addition, an assortment of visual artists, digital video artists and filmmakers present their art to the crowds.

The supporting acts and special guest performers for Freezestyle 2004 will be announced in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the Galactic crew aren’t exactly loafing around. They’ve got two shows at Tipitina’s Uptown in their hometown at the end of December, and then board the Jam Cruise for both ventures out to sea.
