The band’s first album of new material in nearly four years, Misery Is A Butterfly, will reportedly be released in early March on 4AD/Beggars Banquet. Fugazi’s Guy Picciotto once again handled production duties.

The disc is the sixth for the band, which was born in 1993 in New York when Italian twin brothers Simone (drums) and Amedeo Pace (vocals, guitar) happened to meet Japanese art students Kazu Makino (vocals, guitar) and Maki Takahashi (bass) in an Italian restaurant. The group soon caught the attention of Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley, who released their first two albums on his Smells Like Records label in 1995.

Although Takahashi left after their first release, the lack of a bassist didn’t slow the band down a bit. Unwound’s Vern Rumsey filled in on 1997’s Fake Can Be Just As Good, but for the most part, Blonde Redhead has soldiered on as a trio, producing five acclaimed full-lengths in all.
