After a short rest following one of the most successful tours ever,
Paul McCartney has announced plans to rock European stadiums this summer. The 13-city jaunt will include seven cities that have never hosted a Macca performance, including Leipzig, Prague and Horsens, Denmark. The itinerary also boasts dates in Madrid, Gothenburg, Zurich, Oslo and Helsinki – cities that haven’t seen him in more than a decade.
Organizers of the Rock In Rio festival in Lisbon, Portugal, decided to begin the weeklong event one day earlier in order to provide for the city’s first-ever Macca concert May 28.
The tour begins May 25 in Gijon, Spain, and will cap off with a June 26 performance at the U.K.’s famed Glastonbury Festival. A career-spanning setlist is promised, featuring music from the Beatles, Wings and his solo years.
McCartney’s last outing won Major Tour of the Year honors at the 2003 Pollstar Concert Industry Awards. The “Back In The World” tour began in April 2002 after a 10-year absence from the road. By the time he wrapped last spring, the jaunt had grossed a good $114 million with nearly a million tickets sold.
