50 Foot Wave
With some help from fellow ex-Throwing Muse Bernard Georges on bass and Rob Ahlers on drums, Hersh is kicking up the volume with her new outfit. 50 Foot Wave promises to be “harder, faster, more intense and built from the ground up to be a band to see live.” On that note, they plan to play around 100 shows per year.
They’ll get the party started April 13 at The Casbah in San Diego, and work their way up the West Coast before heading across the country. Current dates run through May 16, when they play the Iota Cafe in Arlington, Va.
The trio released its initial six-song EP in March, and promises to come up with another every nine months or so.
Despite having released a critically acclaimed reunion album last year, Throwing Muses is, according to Hersh, defunct. The band was formed in 1983 and became the first American act signed to seminal British indie label 4AD. They broke up in 1997, with sporadic reunions occurring over the next few years.
