The singer/guitarist (real name Will Oldham) is supporting the March release of Bonnie “Prince” Billy Sings Greatest Palace Music, on which he re-recorded a selection of his early work under the Palace/Palace Music/Palace Brothers/etc. monikers.

Although the Drag City Web site asked fans to vote for the songs to be included on the album, Oldham has suggested in recent interviews that was less than strict in adhering to the results.

Most of the Palace tunes were originally recorded in a spare, lo-fi environment, with Oldham’s guitar often providing the only instrumentation. For the “covers” record, the songs were given a Nashville makeover with Lambchop’s Mark Nevers directing a cast of veteran studio musicians.

Under his given name, Oldham also recently released Seafarers Music, the soundtrack to a documentary shot in the Port of Rotterdam.
