The singer is supporting her new self-titled album with an ambitious tour this summer. After a single mid-July show in London, she’ll kick off a five-week North American jaunt August 8 in Miami. The tour wraps in Portland, Ore., September 7.

Although Gilberto has been performing and recording nearly her whole life, the new album is only her second solo effort. Rather than utilizing her famous name, she has preferred to steadily work on building a quality career.

“You know, one thing I really, really promised myself is that I’m not going to talk about my father or my mother anymore,” Gilberto told the Washington Post when the subject of her lineage came up.

“You are talking to Bebel, not the daughter of Joao Gilberto and Miúcha. [That Bebel] is dead. Now I’m myself.”

Bebel Gilberto was produced by Marius DeVries and follows her 2000 debut, Tanto Tempo.

She last toured the U.S. in 2001-2002 with A Guy Called Gerald, selling out venues including New York City’s Irving Plaza and The Fillmore in San Francisco.
