But within a year, the newly formed Rogue Wave was doing just that. This month, the quartet will support its July Sub Pop release, Out of the Shadow, with a 39-date headlining tour of the U.S. starting January 20 in San Diego.

The group – which also includes Pat Spurgeon (drums/keyboards/samples/vocals), Sonya Westcott (bass/vocals) and Gram LeBron (guitar/keyboards/vocals) – will go on to play one more date in its home state before making its way across the nation. The last scheduled date has the band returning to San Francisco for a February 26 Noise Pop Festival gig at Slim’s.

Supporting the band on some of those dates will be The Album Leaf (January 20-22), and Two Gallants from late January through February.

Rogue Wave has received a wealth of acclaim in the press, including some nice words from New Pornographers vocalist/songwriter Carl Newman.

“Rogue Wave seems like a classic Bay Area band in the tradition of Thinking Fellers and Barbara Manning – they’ve just got that vibe,” Newman said.

The band has several March shows scheduled for Europe and the U.K., according to its Web site. Those dates will see them traveling through England, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Germany.
