Kings Of The U.S.?
KOL made a critical splash with their debut last year, Youth & Young Manhood, but the Kings didn’t take off in the states like they did in Europe. In fact, one band that opened up for them here in the U.S. – a four-piece simply called Jet – got a lot more attention.
Overseas though? Man, that’s a different story. The three brothers and first cousin comprising KOL are London celebrities, partying well into the night after sold-out shows.
Maybe things are about to get even better. Recently, KOL booked a show in Los Angeles to play songs from their upcoming Aha Shake Heartbreak. The show – January 29 at The Roxy – sold out in three hours. So they booked a second night.
That’s turned into three months across the U.S., starting at Seattle’s Neumo’s January 25 and ending at Birmingham, Ala.’s Workplay Theatre March 19th, with a two-day stay at Nashville’s Exit In along the way.
Meanwhile, the U.K. has already listened to the sophomore effort; the continent’s New Musical Express says it’s a “vast improvement” on the first album.
That album was called one of the best debuts in a decade by the same magazine.
