CIC Update

CIC 2005 will be the largest industry gathering in the event’s history. The record attendance level for the February 2-4 confab has already resulted in a complete sellout of rooms at the Century Plaza Hotel.

Sorry, but no rooms – even at full rack rate – are available for the run of the conference. There are still a few CIC delegate registration slots available but those are expected to be gone well before the conference begins.

The Pollstar Concert Industry Awards on Friday, February 4th, at The Wiltern LG is also rapidly moving toward an advance sellout. Any remaining tickets are also expected to be gone before the start of CIC. A pre-show cocktail reception begins at 6 p.m. and the awards show hosted by Lewis Black begins at 7 p.m. The after-party with food and open bar immediately follows.

An effort was made this year to add some new elements to the CIC program, including mentoring sessions and a series of roundtables where smaller discussion groups should prove to be very lively.

CIC is also pleased to have a number of major artist managers participating in the conference for the first time. Longtime Neil Young manager Elliot Roberts has agreed to join Doc McGhee and Peter Katsis on the “Changing The Touring Business Model” session. Destiny’s Child manager and guiding force Mathew Knowles will add his expertise to the “Beyond Sponsorship” panel.

“Comedy – Live Entertainment’s Best Kept Secret” will have a few surprises to go along with some of the genre’s best-known managers. J.P. Williams, the ringmaster of red neck comedians, is being joined by Jamie Foxx manager Marcus King.

Adding a true veteran’s perspective to the panel will be George Lopez manager Ron DeBlasio, who has probably seen it all during the course of his management career advising a stable of stars ranging from Freddie Prinz to Richard Pryor.
