Bill Simmons Dies At 80

Veteran Western swing musician Bill Simmons, keyboardist with the Grammy-winning Light Crust Doughboys, died January 24th at his Texas home from cancer of the esophagus.

Simmons, 80, received seven Grammy nominations as a member of the band, winning as recently as 2003.

He’d also been inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame, Rockabilly Hall of Fame, International Country Gospel Hall of Fame and the Texas International Music Association.

Simmons had been a member of the Light Crust Doughboys since 1954.
