Kid Rock’s Assault Rap

Nashville police arrested Kid Rock February 16th on charges that he punched a DJ at a strip club.

The rapper, whose real name is Bob Ritchie, was released after posting $3,000 bail on a misdemeanor assault charge. If convicted, he could be sentenced up to a year in jail.

Police said the incident happened at about 3 a.m. at Christie’s Cabaret near downtown Nashville.

“Inside the establishment there was a squabble concerning, I guess, the selection of music,” Nashville Police Sgt. James Smith said. “Again, there are no major injuries but an assault did take place.”

Television footage from outside the club showed the DJ, Jay Campos, holding his broken eyeglasses and sporting a red mark on his face.

Ritchie allegedly slipped out the back door of another strip club as police arrived, but later surrendered without incident.

The Detroit-based singer laughed and joked with the two officers who arrested him and others at his hearing before the Night Court Commissioner.

Ritchie was in town to perform at a memorial service for songwriter and manager Merle Kilgore at the Ryman Auditorium.
