Joe Carter Dies

Carter Family member Joe Carter, 78, died of cancer at his home March 2nd.

He helped build the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Va., which presented country and bluegrass music shows every weekend.

Carter was the last direct connection to the famous 1927 recording session (dubbed “the big bang of country music”) where his parents, A.P. and Sara Carter, and cousin Maybelle Carter recorded as the Carter Family trio. Joe was 5 months old at the time.

Marty Stuart, Tom T. Hall Tribute Project and Johnny Cash’s son John Carter Cash were listed among the pall bearers.
