Eric Idle must be looking on the bright side of life these days, what with ticket sales for “Monty Python’s Spamalot” topping a healthy $1.6 million by 5 p.m. the day after the musical’s Broadway debut at the Shubert Theatre in New York City.
The show, based on the film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” now has an advance of more than $18 million, a ticket price of $101.25 and premium ducats for the best seats in the house going for $251.25.
“Spamalot,” written by Idle and directed by Mike Nichols, stars Tim Curry of “Rocky Horror Picture Show” fame and has so far garnered positive reviews for its typically Python-esque silly fun.
