Wichita Arena Moves Forward

Kansas’ state legislature has approved the 1 percent sales tax increase to help build a 15,000-seat arena in Wichita, according to the Wichita Eagle newspaper.

The governor was expected to sign the bill April 4th. Voters approved the measure last November, but a change in state law was needed for Sedgwick County lawmakers to raise local taxes.

Wichita voters chose to fund a new arena rather than renovate the Kansas Coliseum.

A site has yet to be chosen for the proposed facility, which is expected to break ground in July 2007.
