The Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mount Pleasant, Mich., is branching out into the summer concert business with the addition of a 10,000-seat shed scheduled to open in May.
Bill Masterson, executive director of entertainment, said the decision to add the amphitheatre with a covered stage gives another alternative to the casino’s 3,200-seat showroom.
“One of the things we want to do with this is not only service our existing customer base, which would be kind of a Barry Manilow crowd, but open it up to other folks that may or may not consider the casino as a concert destination,” Masterson told Pollstar. “Actually, we’re the only casino in the state that allows 18-year-olds to come into our facility.
“Our plan is to do 10 concerts. We may end up doing 12 to 14. There’s other things that are just kind of in the talking stages. ”
Lynyrd Skynyrd is scheduled to break in the new shed May 26th. Other acts will be announced as they’re confirmed, Masterson said.
