DSO’s Larned Dies On Tour

Dark Star Orchestra co-founder and keyboardist Scott Larned, 35, died April 24th of heart failure just after performing two sold-out shows at the State Theatre in Falls Church, Va., according to his friend and agent, Jeff Laramie of SRO Artists.

The band immediately canceled the few remaining dates of its spring tour, but Laramie told Pollstar DSO plans to soldier on when its next tour launches as scheduled May 27th.

Larned, who founded the band with guitarist John Kadlecik, also performed with the Freddy Jones Band before forming DSO.

He had been the group’s business manager as well as keyboardist until last fall.

“He loved the band and, even if he wasn’t in it, he’d want the band to continue,” Laramie said.

“He was a very close friend of mine, which developed over time with the band and, as cliche as it is to say, it is a very tragic loss.”
