Always ones to keep themselves busy, Sigur Ros is embarking upon a world tour this summer in promotion of… well, we’re not sure.

Last December, the band reported on their web site that most of the follow-up to their 2002 album, ( ), had been recorded, but little news has surfaced since.

But who says that you can’t tour just for the sake of it?

The tour will kick-off in Scotland on July 8 at Academy Glasgow. The month of July will be almost entirely taken up with shows throughout Wester Europe, but Sigur Ros are scheduled to play the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan on July 31.

Only four dates are scheduled for the month of August all in Australia. A one-off in Honolulu follows on August 8.

Sigur Ros make it to the U.S. mainland on September 6 with a show in Atlanta. The tour will head up the East Coast, hitting a number of major cities, including a two-night stand in New York at the Beacon Theatre on September 12 and 13. A few shows in major Canadian markets will follow before hitting the Great Lakes region.

The tour then hits the West Coast, starting with a show in Vancouver on September 28. Working their way South with shows in Washington, Oregon, and California, the road trip will finally wrap in Las Vegas on October 6.

Through the European leg of the tour, Sigur Ros will be supported by their Bad Taste label-mates, Amina. This string quartet will also join Sigur Ros onstage during their set. No word yet, though, if Amina will be joining the band in the States.
