‘Big Daddy’ Hypolite Dies
Blues guitarist Harry “Big Daddy” Hypolite was killed in a car accident June 22nd in Louisiana.
Hypolite, 68, died instantly when his stalled car was hit from behind by a 18-wheeler on Interstate 10 near Port Allen, state police said.
The entertainer, known for singing in Creole French, performed with zydeco king Clifton Chenier and later with Chenier’s son,
Hypolite’s 2001 solo album, Louisiana Country Boy, earned him a best new artist debut nomination from the Blues Music Foundation and slots at festivals in Monterey, Calif., New Orleans and Lucerne, Switzerland.
