‘Big Daddy’ Hypolite Dies

Blues guitarist Harry “Big Daddy” Hypolite was killed in a car accident June 22nd in Louisiana.

Hypolite, 68, died instantly when his stalled car was hit from behind by a 18-wheeler on Interstate 10 near Port Allen, state police said.

The entertainer, known for singing in Creole French, performed with zydeco king Clifton Chenier and later with Chenier’s son, C.J. , for 18 years.

Hypolite’s 2001 solo album, Louisiana Country Boy, earned him a best new artist debut nomination from the Blues Music Foundation and slots at festivals in Monterey, Calif., New Orleans and Lucerne, Switzerland.
