Bocephus Meets The Mafia

MuzikMafia member Gretchen Wilson gave a tip of the hat to Hank Williams Jr. in her explosive hit “Redneck Woman.” One of her credentials for redneckedness? She knows all the words to every Little Bocephus song. Heck, in the video, she even had to clean up after Hank, who somehow was hanging around her house, leaving crumbs all over the place.

Wilson isn’t going out on tour with Bocephus, but a whole bunch of MusikMafia members are. Gretchen, Big & Rich and Cowboy Troy are the best-known graduates of the consortium – a group of square-peg songwriters who’d get together every Tuesday night at a Nashville club.

But there’s plenty more who will be making names for themselves and Williams is going to show them off: James Otto, Jon Nicholson, Shannon Lawson, Chance and Mista D. A painter, Rachel Kice, will do artwork during the shows, capturing what’s onstage and in the audience.

There’s a reason why Hank Williams’ son is taking these folks on the road – they share a love for fun country music.

“My music fits the blend of what MusikMafia is: a little blues, a little rock ‘n’ roll, and a whole lot of country,” Bocephus said.

Dates are scheduled for Detroit, Columbus, Cincinnati and Birmingham. Big & Rich and Cowboy Troy are expected to perform alongside Williams as part of the country Thunder in Twin Lakes, Wis., July 23.
