Parks’ Lawyers Seek Legal Fees

Lawyers for Rosa Parks are asking for legal fees in the civil rights pioneer’s settled lawsuit with OutKast and others.

One of the lawyers who sued on Parks’ behalf is seeking a total of $290,000 for three law firms involved in the case. A judge scheduled a hearing for July 14th.

In April, the 1999 defamation and trademark infringement lawsuit that accused OutKast of wrongly using Parks’ name in a song title was settled for an undisclosed amount.

Parks, 92, was to receive money to pay for her medical care and bills. OutKast and co-defendants SONY / BMG Music Entertainment, Arista Records and LaFace Records also agreed to produce educational programs related to Parks’ history and legacy.
